Foundational Spanish Portfolio
EXPERIENCE
When I began Spanish back in August, I was not comfortable speaking Spanish at all. I took Spanish for two years in high school, however I never felt confident in Spanish. This course has helped me to feel more confident speaking Spanish. This course has also broadened my understanding of Spanish culture. As I mentioned, I travel to the Dominican Republic often and this course has helped to gain an understanding and appreciation of the culture there.
As I continue to navigate my way through learning Spanish, I hope to gain a better understanding of Spanish and eventually have the ability to carry on conversations when out of the country. I also want to gain a better understanding of Spanish to be able to assist clients that may speak Spanish once I establish my real estate firm.
This course has made me more self aware because I feel more confident speaking Spanish. I plan to continue practicing so I can get more proficient in Spanish. This class has helped me to gain respect for the culture. Through reading and learning I have discovered that Spanish culture is different in several ways. But there is an understanding and interest in the culture. As I mentioned I feel more confident in my travels since I have a better understanding of Spanish. I can also help my mom with Spanish as we travel together.

Self Assessment & Reflection
Some of the strategies and concepts have had a profound impact on my learning and understanding Spanish. There are several memorable moments that had a lasting impact. One memorable moment was the conversation with the professor. This activity helped me practice my speaking skills and gain confidence. Another moment was creating my portfolio. This was important because I was able to reflect and determine the strides made in Spanish this semester. Class discussions have also had a memorable impact. I enjoyed learning and reading with my peers. My understanding of Spanish will be used beyond the classroom. When traveling to other countries I will be able to understand and speak Spanish.
Writing in Spanish
My writing assignments have improved tremendously. In the beginning of this course I was not able to write full sentences. I can write full sentences in Spanish. Since I have improved my writing I am able to gain a better understanding of Spanish.
