Integrative Learning Framework Guidelines

Please carefully review each section and provide a complete response. Remember to delete these instructions AFTER providing your responses.​ For each bullet point, you must add coursework examples, these can be in a method of Media, Screenshots or PDF viewer; avoid adding direct links. If using work that has the voice or face of another student, you must ask for permission. ​Please do not delete the main titles (Introduction, Experience, etc.)

When providing course examples, please explain how that example ties in with your explanation of the topic.

Introduction:

• Share why you chose to enroll in this Spanish course. (You could have chosen many different languages, why Spanish?) Think about how learning Spanish fits with your personal and professional goals. Explain the importance of understanding different cultures in today’s world and how learning a language helps with that. Talk about how you plan to use Spanish in the future, beyond just speaking the language. Finally, share your thoughts on how cultural understanding can improve both your personal growth and professional opportunities. Make sure your paragraph is clear and reflects your true motivation. (No course example needed on your introduction)

Experience:

• In this section, reflect on how taking this course has influenced your real-life experiences. Think about the moments where you found yourself more aware of the Spanish language or Hispanic culture outside the classroom. This could include trying new foods, recognizing cultural practices, or even hearing Spanish in your community or online. Describe what you’ve been able to experience differently since starting the class and how these moments have shaped your understanding.

• Next, share what you hope to achieve as you continue learning Spanish. What specific goals do you have? This could be anything from fluency to feeling confident using Spanish in travel, work, or conversations. Then, imagine what opportunities could open up for you if you achieve those goals. How might Spanish impact your personal, academic, or professional life?

• Finally, consider how these new experiences and your growing knowledge have made you more self-aware. How has this class changed the way you think about language, culture, or even your own identity? The more you engage with Spanish, the more connections you’ll notice between what you’re learning and the world around you. (PROVIDE COURSEWORK  EXAMPLES)

Transfer:​

• Explain how being proficient in Spanish can be useful for your future career. Find examples of job listings or roles where being bilingual is important, and talk about how these opportunities show the value of knowing Spanish. Use examples from the course to show how what you’ve learned in class connects to the skills employers are looking for. (ADD COURSE EXAMPLES) 

• Look online for jobs in your major or career field of choice where knowing Spanish would be advantageous.

Integrated Communication:​/ Active communications in Spanish:

In this section, analyze how you have actively engaged with the Spanish language throughout the course. Reflect on the various types of communication (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)  that you practiced and how these contributed to your language development. Be sure to include coursework examples that highlight your progress and accomplishments in each area.

1. Speaking and Pronunciation
   Focus: Reflect on your experiences with speaking and pronunciation during the course.

   • Which assignments or activities helped you gain confidence in speaking Spanish?

   • Were there any specific challenges with pronunciation, and how did you overcome them?

   • Coursework Examples: Include audio or video recordings of speaking exercises or presentations. Share how these tasks helped improve your fluency.

2. Listening and Comprehension
   Focus: Discuss how your listening skills developed through assignments and class activities.

   • How did listening exercises (e.g., Connect resources, audio lessons, class dialogues) improve your understanding of spoken Spanish?

   • Were there particular resources or activities that stood out in building your comprehension?

   • Coursework Examples: Include listening assignments, quizzes, or notes that demonstrate how your listening skills evolved.

3. Reading in Spanish
   Focus: Reflect on how reading assignments contributed to your understanding of written Spanish.

   • What reading materials or assignments helped you improve your comprehension?

   • How did these readings enhance your understanding of grammar, vocabulary, or sentence structures?

   • Coursework Examples: Provide examples of reading assignments, annotations, or written reflections that demonstrate your growth.

4. Writing in Spanish
   Focus: Discuss how writing assignments helped improve your ability to express yourself in Spanish.

   • How did written assignments (e.g., essays, discussion posts) help you strengthen your grammar, vocabulary, and fluency?

   • Which writing tasks were the most challenging, and how did they help you grow?

   • Coursework Examples: Include examples of written work that demonstrate your progress over the course of the semester.

Self-Assessment and Reflection:

• Reflect on your experience in this course. What are some aspects you would approach differently now that the course has concluded? What strategies or concepts did you apply successfully? What preparation methods were most effective for you? Were there any elements that shifted your perspective? What will leave a positive lasting impression on you from this course? Provide an example (VIDEO, SCREENSHOT, PICTURE ETC.) of something that left that impression and explain why.​​

• How do you envision using Spanish in the future? This could be a combination of personal, academic, and professional contexts.
